Hello Everyone!

About Me

Hi, I own a 8room house built in 1917, and I love it. All the walls are horsehair (excellent condition), they have always had wallpaper, now I am ready to paint each room. I have a kitchen that I would "love" to put new cabinets in,however, I do not have the finances to do that. I am a RN who had back surgery 3yrs ago and that was the end of my career as I knew it. What I was able to do before, I can no longer do it due to finances. In Feb 08, my hasband passed away very suddenly which left us (myself and 2 children) with even less money coming in. I am looking on the bright side and keeping myself busy with projects around the house. O.K. now you know a little about me, now I am going to tell you what I need to do around the house to spruce it up. First, I am in the process of painting my 16 yr old daughter's bedroom. All the sweet, cute, little girl wallpaper is now gone, boo hoo!!! She choose 2 pinks, the same colors as Victoria's Secret bags. I want to do horizontal stripes, she wants verticle, the room is only 10x11 and I think the horizontal stripes would make it look larger. But, there is no fighting with a teenager, and after all, it is her bedroom. Now, for the kitchen. The kitchen is large, 30x18, Everything but the cabinets have been gutted about 8yrs ago. My delima, the cabinets of course. They are 30yrs old, very plain, made I believe, by the previous owner when they enlarged the kitchen. They are wooden and desperately need some attention. I would really love new one's but can't do it, financially! I am thinking about painting them to look llike that new pale yellow distressed look that is so in style now. My question is what color yellow and how do I give them that distressed look with them being a flat surface???? Also, 4 of the doors I have marked off 2" in on all sides and I am going to cut out the inner and put frosted glass in, then put all new knobs, brushed silver. My house is basically a little bit country, alittle bit "mission style", leaning more towards the mission style. It is basically a craftsman style house. Then I need to choose a pint color for the walls. Originally I was going to paint the cabinets green, walls yellow and blue, pale blue, but now I do not know what color to paint the walls? Any ideas? Should I put some type of wooden trim on the cabinets so that they have that distressed look that I would like? I think the cabinets need some type of trim so that the varnish that goes on after the paint can take on the distressed look. Help!! I am on hold until I know what to do??? Ideas please !
